Ethiopian Guenet Church Development and Welfare Organization

Who we are

We serve and help develop the whole person

Ethiopian Guenet Church Development and Welfare Organization(EGCDWO) is a faith-based organization that works to empower and transform the lives of the most vulnerable and marginalized communities in Ethiopia. We are inspired by the vision and values of the Ethiopian Genet Church, which was founded by pioneer Finnish missionaries in 1951. We are legally registered and recognized by the Ethiopian government since 1999. We have been implementing various development, humanitarian, and peacebuilding programs in different regions of Ethiopia, reaching over 170,000 beneficiaries. We have also built strong partnerships with local and international stakeholders, such as government agencies, donors, and civil society organizations.  We are committed to creating a prosperous and peaceful society, where everyone can enjoy their dignity and rights.

Our Programmes

Holistic Child Development

At EGCDWO, we are passionate about nurturing the well-being of children in Ethiopia. For over 20 years, we have been implementing 30 projects that address the diverse needs of children, from health and education to social and cognitive development. We have reached over 7000 children and their families, empowering them to overcome poverty, injustice, and violence. Our holistic approach has produced inspiring impacts that transform lives and communities. Join us in our mission to help children flourish in Ethiopia.

Community Empowerment

At EGCDWO, we believe that the best way to fight poverty and injustice is to empower people to take control of their own destiny. That's why we facilitate the formation and growth of Self-help groups and Saving groups, where people can save, borrow, and invest together, as well as learn new skills, access resources, and support each other. Through these groups, we have witnessed amazing stories of transformation, resilience, and dignity among our members and their families. We currently work with more than 440 Self-help groups across Ethiopia, reaching over 10,000 people who are making positive changes in their economic and social well-being.

Humanitarian Response

At EGCDWO, we are committed to providing humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable and affected communities in Ethiopia. We have been responding to various crises, such as conflict, displacement, drought, and pandemic, with a range of programs, such as cash transfer, food and non-food items distribution, and protection. We have implemented more than 17 humanitarian projects, covering the full spectrum of the humanitarian intervention continuum, from emergency relief to recovery and resilience. We have reached thousands of people in need, offering them hope, dignity, and support.

Wash and Health

We have a track record of health programs in HIV/AIDS prevention and control and awarded at the national level for best practice. We have also integrated our health programs with our child development programs, to ensure that children and their families have access to quality health care and services. Moreover, we have built latrines for poor communities, to improve their sanitation and hygiene. We have also provided health education to raise awareness and foster positive behavior change among our beneficiaries. We have reached thousands of people in Ethiopia, improving their health and well-being.

Peacebuilding and Advocacy

At EGCDWO, we are dedicated to promoting peace and justice in Ethiopia of different regions that have faced recurrent conflicts and violence. Thanks to the legal reform that granted us the mandate to work on this theme, we have launched a major peacebuilding project in 2022, in collaboration with local partners and stakeholders Oromia region. Our project aims to reach over 14,000 people from different levels of society and to foster dialogue, reconciliation, and social cohesion among them. We also advocate for the rights and needs of the affected communities and support their participation in decision-making processes.
